Guns N' Roses (parfois abrégé GN'R) est un groupe de hard rock américain originaire de Los Angeles. Le groupe a vu le jour suite à la fusion de 2 autres groupes: L.A. Guns, toujours en activité, et Hollywood Rose.

Deep Purple est un groupe de rock britannique, créé en 1968. Cette formation a été l'une des figures de proue du mouvement hard rock, à l'instar de Led Zeppelin et de Black Sabbath. En effet, ces trois groupes passent pour être des véritables "pères fondateurs" du Hard Rock.

Bien que plusieurs groupes de metal les citent comme principale influence, Deep Purple n'a jamais vraiment été un groupe de heavy metal, ou alors juste en début de carrière. Le groupe a fréquemment changé de style au cours des années, mais a toujours été constitué de musiciens virtuoses. Certaines incarnations de Deep Purple ont amené des aspects du jazz et du classique (par l'intermédiaire de Jon Lord avec son Concerto for Group and Orchestra) dans un contexte rock dû à la fréquente utilisation de leurs chansons comme modèles de solos longs et sophistiqués.
